I'm never 100% sure what my songs are about, but this one is something like a guy who falls for a lady, falls in with the wrong crowd, and gets a little over his head. There's some kind of ceremony, he may or may not be adopting a sacrificial role in the proceedings, and then the world rips apart at the seams and he gets dragged into hell by an army of demonic kittens (that's where the big crowd vocal comes in). I'm not sure if it really ends well for him, but he might be okay with it all in the end, our narrator is kind of unpredictable like that.
lyrics
Last night I had a dream, your face was gripped by stony silence
Framed by boughs of evergreen, your eyes an extascy of science
Light shone from within your hair
Cast from a sign: all damaged souls repaired [small appliance repair]
The laughter caught us there
And popped and sparked amid the stagnant air
... And the kittens all in rows
Barbed tails swaying to and fro
Singing softly sweet and low
Threatening to drag our souls below
You wrapped your lips in mine
And shuddered as you drew me to your side
Our bodies intertwined
On shattered landscapes bare and wide
The stars glimmered and squealed
As buckled pavement surged before the storm
Our darkest thoughts revealed
As tangled melodies began to form
And the kittens all in rows...
La da da da da dee da
I'm doing fine I guess
Blessed by divine provenance
Wrapped in robes of gleaming white
And unconstrained by circumstances
Bathed in kisses sweet and rough
And bound by shackles no dust could corrode
As sun descends the bluff
And revelers converge along the road
And how could we think to marry
When all if life is temporary?
Contrary to the wisdom of the preachers putting on their awful show
(now) IT seems that all of life now PIRouettes upon a knife edge
Heavens wedge inserted between wickedness and privilege of home
... And the kittens all in rows
Barbed tails swaying to and fro
Singing softly sweet and low
Threatening to drag our souls below
La da da da da dee da
