Boutique Ballads is an experiment to capitalize on the immediacy and urgency of in-the-moment creative expression. As part of the Critical NW festival, I solicited song subjects from passersby and then attempted to write and record songs based on these prompts, using only a travel guitar and a small box of gear I brought with me. These recordings would be completed during the festival and then sent to the requester as soon as possible after an internet connection was available.

These seven songs exhibit all the haste and imperfection that you might expect, but also, hopefully, capture the spark and joy of creative output. They are captured in near real-time, without the excessive internal editing and overthinking that can sometimes run counter to creativity.

Each of the requesters here granted permission to share the songs publicly, so here they are! I hope they are enjoyed.
